Dr. Stewart Adams, Dermatologist

Dr. Adams was born in Georgetown, Guyana in the Caribbean. He lived there until his family moved to Saskatchewan - for the weather, they joke! He began his academic career at the University of Saskatchewan, completing his B.Sc. in 1981 and moving on to medical school at the same institution, where he also met his wife. He graduated with distinction and then moved to Edmonton to begin his five-year dermatology residency.

Dr. Adams is affiliated with the Foothills Hospital, Peter Lougheed Hospital and Red Deer Regional Hospital. For the last five years he has done bimonthly clinics in Red Deer until the city could finally secure its own dermatologist. He also makes house calls to most of the nursing homes in the city. Dr. Adams is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Dr. Adams is very active in medical education in Alberta. He teaches at the University of Calgary Medical School and Continuing Medical Education Department, he works with students and residents in his office and is a Preceptor for Dermatology Residents at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. As well as his regular publications, he regularly published "Dermacases" for continuing education for the Canadian Family Physician. Dr. Adams is also actively involved in several dermatology studies. He is also the Prairie Representative for the Canadian Dermatology Association Board of Directors.

In his spare time, Dr. Adams is an avid squash player, and enjoys all that Southern Alberta has to offer with camping in the summer and skiing in the winter. He is the proud father of three children.



 

Dr. Derek B. Woolner, Dermatologist

Dr. Woolner was born in Calgary. He is the son of a doctor and followed in his father's footsteps. He studied at the University of Calgary beginning with a B.Sc. (Zoology) with first class Honours and then completed medical school in 1988. He did a general internship for one year at the Calgary General Hospital and then moved on to a residency in Internal medicine. He studied for four years at the University of Chicago and became a Board Certified Dermatologist. He then moved back to his hometown and set up his practise.

Dr. Woolner is affiliated with the Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Hospital, Rockyview Hospital and Alberta Children's Hospital. He can often be found on the wards doing consultations after a long day at his office. Dr. Woolner lectures at the University of Calgary Medical School and often works with residents in his private practise. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada as well as a Diplomate of the American Boards of Dermatology and Dermatopathology. He is a member of the Canadian Dermatology Association, the American Academy of Dermatology and the Alberta Society of Dermatologists. He has published articles on "Hand Dermatitis" (Woolner DB and Soltani K) and "Pigment Abnormalities" (Woolner DB and Soltani K).

Dr. Woolner is married to Dr. Elisabeth Woolner, a family physician, and they are the proud parents of two children, which is a great help to him when dealing with children in his practise.



 

Dr. Sharon Hackett, Dermatologist

Dr. Hackett completed undergraduate and post graduate medical studies at McGill University. She attended Medical school at McMaster University. She worked as a dermatologist affiliated with McGill University teaching hospitals for twelve years as well as having a private practice. She has also practiced in Philadelphia and Vermont.

Dr. Hackett is affiliated with the Foothills Hospital, Peter Lougheed Hospital, Rockyview Hospital and the Alberta Children's Hospital. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Vermont Medical Society and the Canadian Dermatology Association.

Dr. Hackett relocated to Alberta and has since been involved with teaching resident's in her office, and with dermatology studies.
