"FIRST APPEARANCES COUNT."
We live in a society where this is a truism. Everyone is so busy that every minute counts and so our first impression carries more weight than sometimes we would like. We want to look vibrant and energetic; not tired and wan. There are treatments available to help achieve this. Let us assist you by booking a complimentary 30 minute consultation on what is available in our clinic.
SKIN CARE LINES
A good skin care regime may prolong the results of any skin treatment as well as augmenting results. It can also improve the look of your skin by creating a smoother texture and minimize fine lines. We carry the physician exclusive line, Alyria by Canderm, Medique, Dermalogica, and Vivier. Our skin care specialists will be happy to advise you on the product that is best for you.
CHEMICAL PEELS
Chemical peels can be found everywhere these days - from your local
beauty salon to the doctor's office. A peel found at a beauty salon is
very light and will only help with sloughing off dead surface skin. A
doctor's office peel is much stronger and can help with wrinkles, sun
damage and "dull" looking skin. A series of treatments is usually
required.
MICRODERMABRASION
What is it?
Microdermabrasion is an efective form of physical exfoliation for all skin types with no downtime and very little discomfort. Skin will appear softer, smoother, brighter, clearer, fresher and younger looking.
Who can benefit?
This procedure helps anyone with aging, congested, flaky, dry, devitalized, thickened, blemished, dull and sun damaged skin. Clients notice even skin tone and texture.
What areas can be treated?
Most common areas are the face, neck, chest, shoulders, back, hands, knees and elbows.
Why microdermabrasion?
Approximately every 28 days we create a new layer of skin. As new cells form they push their way to the surface and then dead cells settle on the surface. This can cause enlarged pores, clogged pores, a bumpy uneven texture, and a dull appearance. As we age this process slows down leading to the appearance of older skin with less radiance.
How does it work?
Exfoliation is performed with a jet of fine aluminum oxide mineral crystals passing over the skin's surface by creating a gentle vacuum. The crystals exfoliate approximately 20 microns of dead skin cells of the outermost layer. Once removed it reveals one's own fresher skin beneath. One microdermabrasion is equal to 3-30% glycolic peels or one 70%.
How many treatments do you need?
Generally results are more noticeable after the 3rd treatment. Usually treatments are performed every 7-14 days for a series of 6. Maintenance treatments are suggested once every 1 to 2 months.
Any side effects?
Since there is minimal discomfort and no healing time, one can resume normal activities immediately after. One may experience a slight tingling, and after the skin may feel tighter, as if exposed to the wind or sun. It may appear slightly flushed and this generally fades in 12-24 hours.
It is very important after to NOT EXERCISE, where perspiration is created. You will devlop a stinging sensation that can take several hours to dissipate.
Precautions?
If you suffer with cold sores, you should be cold sore free prior to a treatment to avoid the risk of them spreading. Also you need to discuss with the technician if you have any of the following conditions: severe rosacea, dermatitis, skin cancers, bruise easily, inflamed acne, Heapatitis C, AIDS, are on blood thinners or Accutane.
If you use Retin A products or any skin care products that irritate the skin you should stop them for at least 2-3 days before and do not restart until 2-3 days after.
If you use sun beds it is suggested to not tan for 2 weeks after a session.
If you are planning to have injectables such as Botox, Collagen or Fillers it is recommended to have them 2-5 days after a microdermabrasion.
IPL - INTENSE PULSED LIGHT
What is Intense Pulsed Light?
IPL technology is a treatment that can correct a variety of benign skin imperfections, lentigos, signs of aging, unsightly small veins and other skin blemishes. It offers a safe, non-invasive solution for these skin problems.
How is the Procedure Performed?
The skin is cleansed and a cold gel is applied to the area being treated. The IPL hand piece is placed on your skin and pulses of light are applied. You may feel a hot tingling sensation. After treatment you will feel like you have a sunburn. Treatment time is between 30-45 minutes.
How many treatments are necessary?
The number of treatments required varies depending on conditions. You will see improvement with each treatment but depending on the severity of your condition a series of four treatments may be required.
Is there any "downtime"?
Whenever treating vascular conditions there is always a risk of bruising in the treated area. Sun damage or lentigos will look darker before they lighten. Make-up can be worn immediately after treatment. It is best not to schedule treatments within a week of any special event.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN IPL TREAT?
Imperfections from Sun Damage and Photoaging:
Enlarged pores, dull complexions, and other facial imperfections can detract from your appearance no matter how healthy and youg you feel. IPL technology improves both the superficial and deeper skin layers and rejuvenates the skin while at the same time delivers beneficial therapy energy to deep tissue. After treatment you can see a reduction of unwanted pigmentation and the appearance of smoother revitalized skin. This treatment can also be used effectively on the face, neck, chest, and hands.
Benign Vascular Lesions:
The face has an extensive network of veins and tiny blood vessels and chronic flushing. IPL can successfully treat dilated blood vessels and redness without injuring the surrounding healthy skin. For best results 3 treatments are required, spaced 3-4 weeks apart.
IPL AND SUN EXPOSURE?
After an IPL treatment, you will be more sun sensitive for the next 3-4 weeks. Sunscreen SPF 30 or higher is recommended. You should not have an IPL treatment less than 3 weeks prior to prolonged sun exposure.
Injectables
Botox® - is a safe form of the botulism toxin. Botox® is injected into
the muscle that is causing a wrinkle, for example between the brows when
you squint, or your forehead when you frown. It will paralyze the muscle
and that wrinkle will be gone. Botox® usually lasts from 3-6 months and
is then repeated to maintain the effect.
Your doctor will be able to advise you how many syringes would be required to treat a specific area.
Restylane
Restylane is a filler similiar to collagen but which lasts longer and
has a much lower risk of allergic reaction. It can be used to eliminate
wrinkles, soften lines and enhance the lips. Restylane comes in
different "sizes" so it works well on deep wrinkles as well as fine
lines such as crow's feet. It can also be used to fill scars such as
acne scars, and can be used to enhance lips and make them appear fuller.
Restylane is a good way to try out a change before making it permanent,
because it fades away in 3-6 months. If you like the results, you can
try one of the permanent fillers such as Artecoll.
Broken blood vessels
Laser treatment is available for unsightly blood vessels on the face and body. Some of these treatments do create temporary bruising lasting
7 - 14 days.
Unwanted Moles
Cosmetic removal of unsightly moles can often be accomplished in a single office visit.
